Description
We feed Timothy hay because it has the correct balance of protein, fiber, and minerals required by Asian elephants. Alfalfa and many other quality hays are too high in protein and low in fiber. Elephants require a high volume of roughage, relatively low protein, around 7%, and hay that is stemy, as opposed to all leaves. Timothy hay meets all of these requirements. Unfortunately, Timothy does not grow in our climate, so we must import. As you might expect, hauling a semi-load of 570 bales of hay is costly, but good nutrition is essential for our elephants.
